Covid 19 has forced unprecedented change on small businesses. This is a story describing how Digital Shadow has helped a local brewery adapt and go from worrying about surviving to how to deliver on all the 100 beer orders that came through less than 2 days after launching their online store.
Hop Kettle is a local success story. A growing business with a brand built on the strength of great beer and an innovative approach to brewing, creating bespoke beers to compliment menus for restaurant chains. They also have their own bars including, Tap & Brew and The Eternal Optimist in Swindon’s Old Town.
A week ago, the owner called us saying they would only survive the current situation if they can sell their beers online. Yesterday we launched the Hop Kettle Store. You may have heard Tom discussing his plans in an interview over the weekend on BBC Wiltshire; and when the site went live just 5 days later the response was instant.
1. With the Google SEO we put in place we had people finding products and asking questions online before we even launched on social later in the day.
2. @ launch we saw a huge spike in web traffic and a sales order every four minutes and the transactions all went through without a hitch.
3. When the sales reached 100 orders we were asked to put up a message to advise that the shop needed to close from 4pm the following day until Monday @5pm to allow the logistics team at Hop-Kettle to get the deliveries out and brew more beer.

I will be eternally grateful to the team at Digital Shadow for their huge efforts in helping protect my staff’s wages, my business and of course keeping Swindon well lubricated with great beer.
